Blog Tour: Hunter by Blaire Drake

Born into blood, I was a mafia princess. Raised in hiding, I was a Californian sweetheart. The day my father sold my thirteen year old body to pay off a five year old debt was the day my mother stole me in the dead of night. She protected me as she was supposed to My father may have been the king, but my mother was the queen. The mafia blood was hers. That was ten years ago. Now… the devil was on the loose. Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso was my father’s right hand man and the boy I’d loved since I could tie my own shoelaces. He was always the most ruthless and the most deadly of all the children. He’d thought I was dead until the day his assignment was given: Kill Adriana and Alexandria Romano. Kill the princess, and definitely kill the queen. What he didn’t know was that the queen was dead, and the princess had taken her throne. Blood didn’t lie. It smeared, distorted, stained. But it didn’t lie. My father was going to learn the hard way that the empire he’d stolen belonged to me. And so did Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso.

“Staying, are you? Figure it's easier to kill me in my sleep?”

Once again, he rubbed his hand across his face. He said nothing.

“Trying to work out whose life is worth more, right? Mine is probably worth a lifetime of comfort for you. Kill me and everyone's happy, right? My pathetic excuse for a father gets to keep his empire and you're taken care of for life.”

He looked at me, and his expression was a little tortured. I was being harsh. I knew that. But I needed to be. It was easier to provoke him and be angry with him than give in to the horrible ache that had settled in my heart.

“Adriana...” Weak. The word was weak.

I wanted to ignore the indecision on his face, but I couldn't.

He was considering it.

He really was.

I scoffed quietly at him and grabbed the gun from the coffee table. His mask and gloves fell to the floor, but he made no move to pick them up. The safety was on the gun, and I held it out to him. “Here. Take it. I don't care, Hunter. I don't have much of a life here in hiding anyway.”

He didn't even look at the gun. His silvery gaze never left mine. I wished he would look away, because in that gaze, I saw the Hunter I knew. The boy who once ripped his favorite shirt to stem the bleeding when I fell and cut my leg, then proceeded to carry me home. The boy who offered to pee on my foot when I got stung by a jellyfish in Mexico on vacation when I was seven.

The boy I loved before I knew what love even was.

“You're weak, Hunter,” I whispered. Slowly, I turned the gun back to me and touched the barrel to my temple the way he did earlier. His jaw clenched when my thumb edged toward the safety, and when my finger moved to hook around the trigger, he moved.

He was like a lightning bolt. He came at me like a flash, snatched the gun from my hand, and dropped it on the sofa. It bounced but stayed on the seat, and then he turned on me with blazing eyes. “Don't,” he ground out, his arms tensing and looking even bigger. “Don't ever fucking put that to your head again.”

“Why? I was saving you the job.”

The words had barely left my lips when he pounced on me. It was deadly, the way his hands clasped my face and his mouth descended on mine. I staggered back into the wall, gasping at the ferocity of his movement. Shock paralyzed me as he kissed me harshly. His tongue ran along the seam of my mouth, and as I fisted the sides of his shirt, I bit his lower lip.

A low growl left his throat, but he didn't relent. He just kissed me harder. He kissed me until I was fucking spinning and could barely string two thoughts together. Until my whole body was alight with his touch and responding to his every movement.

He tasted like whiskey. The strong, rich taste that lingered on his lips was heady and only added to the intoxicating way he touched me.

And then... It hit me. He was touching me. Kissing me.

Twenty minutes ago, he could have killed me.

There's something about distance that makes the heart grow fonder. For Hunter and Adriana, the distance of 10 years that Hunter thought his best friend and soul mate was dead all but turned him into a ruthless assassin. Oh wait...yes it did. Can chemistry be fueled with anger? Seems like in this case, it created a tension that could not be matched, or, forgotten.

When the two get thrown back together in the most unexpected way possible--seriously, Hunter is sent to assassinate Adriana, the pair are thrown for a huge mind fuck. Can he do it--can he kill his best friend...his soulmate? He HAS been killing ruthlessly for an entire decade earning him the badge of Angel of Death. Or can love really conquer all? The story is well written and it was a nice story to dive into--a love story among the action and darkness you can only find in the mafia. There's excitement, suspense, darkness and light all rolled into a love story like no other.

Betrayal by Aleatha Romig

One week. No future. No past. No more.

Alexandria Collins has one week to live carefree—no ghosts of her past or pressures of her future haunting her. Reinventing herself as "Charli," she is knocked off her feet by a sexy, mysterious man who brings her pleasure like she never imagined. With her heart at stake, she forgets that decisions made in the dark of night reappear in the bright light of day.

"Some of my tastes are unique. They aren’t for everyone. I understand that.”

Lennox "Nox" Demetri is wealthy, confident, and decisive—he knows what he wants. From the first time he sees Charli at an exclusive resort, he knows he wants her. Although he is usually the one to make the rules, together they agree on one:

One week. No more.

When betrayal comes from those closest to Alexandria, she must decide how far she is willing to go to survive. Choices are not always easy, especially when they involve the heart, body, and soul. After all, Infidelity is a business, and some rules are meant to be broken.

"Is it really cheating if you're doing it to yourself?"

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a sexy, new dominant hero who knows what he wants, and a strong-willed heroine who has plans of her own. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic dark romance will have readers swooning one minute and screaming the next. Have you been Aleatha'd?

BETRAYAL is a full-length novel and the first of five in the INFIDELITY series.

Betrayal is available for purchase:

I felt like the book was off to a slow start. The first half seemed to be really long and drawn out but that is to be expected with the intricate tales that Aleatha normally spins. Jumping back and forth between the past and present gave the story two different feels and, of course, perspectives.  I definitely enjoyed the "present" chapters more as it was the complex plot being spun while the "past" chapters was more the "action" part of this first novel. I've always been more of a story > sex kind of reader so I definitely appreciated all of the issues Alex faced at home and was running away from. It seemed like the more characters that were brought into the novel the more layers were being added on. I was back and forth on Charli's/Alex's character for the longest time. Part of me rolls my eyes as to how easily she fell into Nox's arms but part of me loves how strong she is to stand up to the bullshit put forth by her family. The ending was a bit of (expected) messed up and left me craving more story. As a fan of the author's other series, I was expecting a twisted plot with a cliffhanger-type ending and she didn't disappoint!

Escaping Reality by Lisa Renee Jones

Let me start off by saying...OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I WAITED SO LONG TO READ THIS!!! Alright, now that that is out of the way...I can start.

This book starts off with Amy having to flee New York City and assume a new identity. This is, apparently, nothing new for Amy. Starting fresh, her mysterious handler has her set up her new life in Denver, Colorado. On that fateful night, she meets Liam Stone. Sparks FLY from the second they make eye contact at the airport and only get more severe and passionate during their plane ride. Doesn't help that he also follows her to her new apartment (really, what kind of person does that with a complete stranger? WEIRD. Anyways, the more time they spend together, the more in love Amy falls with Liam. Is she getting too comfortable for her own good? She's lived most of her adult life not being able to trust anyone...can she really think about falling in love and establishing connections?

The secondary plot is all about Amy and her trying to uncover why she's been relocated to Denver. She, clearly, fully trusts this guy she refers to as her handler. All she seems to know about him is that he's saved her once and he has a distinguishable tattoo on his wrist. As she spends her days in Denver working her cover job, she's finding things more and more mysterious. She starts doing something she's been afraid to in the past--uncover some truths. The more she uncovers, the more puzzled she gets...and the more puzzled YOU will get. What an ending to this novel.  If you like cliffhangers (I hate them), then you'll love how this novel ends...

So, I started off by saying that I can't believe I waited so long to read this book but DAMN, I'm so glad I waited because the second and final book in this series is coming out in about a week!!!
