Twenty-one year old Alexis Caine is so close to her dream she can taste it. And it tastes like validation and Häagen-Dazs.
In a few months she'll graduate with a shiny new business degree and launch a fashion label with her best friend Ava. All the planning, the dedication, and the saying ‘no’ to everything—and everyone—will have been worth it.
Then Dylan Cameron, Ava’s tall, dark and broody younger brother, returns from the East coast. Lex has hardly seen him in years and given his reputation for partying, girls, and worse, that’s just fine with her.
But suddenly Dylan’s all grown up. And a dangerous night of unplanned confessions for both of them threatens to tear Lex's carefully constructed world off its axis.
Because one sassy control freak plus one prodigal son equals chemistry that refuses to be ignored.
Unlike a lot of steamier NA novels, this one has quite a bit of guts to it. The story that takes place between Lexi and Dylan is one of chemistry and grows to be quite in-depth. I felt like I really got to know the characters. Moreso than in a lot of other novels I've read--or so it seemed. Dylan comes with a reputation that Lexi is determined to peel off and look beneath. He's got this bad boy vibe to him that makes him insta-attractive to me. Lexi doesn't come off as annoying at first but the more she makes excuses to keep things between the two of them under wraps, the more I wanted to kick her. I get her motives but it didn't make too much sense to me anyway.
That all having been said, I loved the chemistry between Dylan and Lexi. There was a lot of it and it was unexpected and it was so undeniable that even self-driven Lexi couldn't help herself despite the pact she had made with her best friend. The messiness of being involved with her best friend's brother without her knowing keeps things interesting. The story was there and the chemistry was there. Definitely a light and enjoyable read. Great debut novel by author Piper Lawson!
