A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives with her husband and three children. Her favorite pastime is spending time with the ones she loves.

Glitter and Grit by Jessie Evans

This ride is going to last a lot longer than eight seconds…

Female professional bull rider, Reece Hearst, graduated from the school of hard knocks. With honors. Because life is like bull riding—when it sends you to the dirt, you do whatever it takes to get on your feet, even if you have to crawl. Like when officials stripped her of her rodeo queen title on the basis of vicious gossip years ago and not even her father would believe her side of the story. Reece could have stayed in the dust, wallowing. Instead, she fixed Lonesome Point in her rearview, joined the pro circuit, and never looked back. But now a serious injury threatens to end her career and she’s back in Lonesome Point, living next door to the family that once made her life a living hell.

After multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and his father’s death, all Grayson Parker wants is to get his family’s cattle business back in the black and live a quiet life. But the return of Reece Hearst opens old wounds, throwing his ordered world into chaos. Grayson was serving overseas when Reece was a teenager and can’t believe the girl he once knew has grown into a heartbreaker as hardened as she is beautiful.

Grayson finds a kindred spirit in wounded Reece and soon longs to be the man to show her that there is life after pain and loss. But can two people as damaged as Reece and Grayson find their way to happily ever after? Or will the scars on their hearts forever keep them apart?

Glitter and Grit is available for purchase:

When Reece picks Grayson up in the bar that fateful night, things fall into place quickly. A bit unbelievable and with just a bit of internal conflict on Reece's end and they were off and running. I loved the strong character that Reece is. I totally felt for her and her situation with Grayson's father. No one should ever have to go through that and I couldn't even begin to imagine being in her shoes. Good on her to take life into her own hands and no let it control her. True, her methods may not be the best way of coping but at least she's doing something other than withering away.

Normally, I find that I side with the guys in most romance stories (what can I say? I like to swoon!!) For once, though, I actually didn't absolutely love Grayson. I felt he was a bit wishy-washy for my liking. There's nothing really definite about him--he's the broody guy at the bar, he's the son of the guy who ruined Reece's late-adolescent life, he's this awesome guy and hero, all at the same time. I feel like he's too much all at once and that makes him not enough of anything (does that make any sense?). I also don't love that he takes Reece's issues so lightly. I find that he, almost too quickly, dismisses any issues Reece may have and just assumes that he's the best thing for her. I find him almost too pushy for my liking.

Having jumped into this series without reading any other books, I would say that I'm not head over heels convinced but I would still look into reading the others. I found that this book was a bit too neat and tidy for me. Everything kind of wrapped up a little too nicely and easily. It was still worth the read, though! Go pick it up :)

Until We Fly by Courtney Cole

Ex-Army Ranger, Brand Killien, has always been good.

A good friend, a good soldier, a good everything. .
The problem is, good hasn’t gotten him anything but a crushed heart.

So after licking his wounds, he decides to move on. And moving on doesn’t include being good anymore.

Bad sounds so much better.

Jaded and detached, Brand is determined to never open himself up to anyone again. It’s not worth the pain. Instead, he becomes closed, hardened, aloof.

But then he’s called back home for a family emergency… a family that he is estranged from. A family that he put out of his mind a long time ago for very good reasons…reasons that involve secrets and pain. Reasons he tried hard to forget.

But home is where the heart is, and it just might be where Brand finds his again.

Why? Because home is where Nora Greene is. A fiery, red-headed spitfire, Nora is a thing from his past. A beautiful, feisty thing. When Brand left, she was away at boarding school.

But she’s back now.

And she wants Brand, scars and all.

This one's a bit late but better late than never, right? I'm currently catching up on reviewing all the titles I managed to read in 2014 so bear with me!

I couldn't wait for Brand's story in this series and this book was not a disappointment! Brand is just as dark and twisted as I thought he would be. This, of course, made me love him that much more. His dark and self-deprecating nature made you sympathize x22039840935098 with his character. He truly deserved to be happy. So why not Nora?

Nora, actually, I had issues with. I didn't love how desperate she came off as. Throw yourself at a guy...okay, that works. I just felt like, "yeah you like him but there's a line...and you're SO far past that line, you can't see it anymore"!! There's a super slow process of growing into liking her character and I don't mind her once her and Brand reach that ending.

Great series, I most definitely recommend reading the entire thing. That being said, I loved Brand's story. It really gives him what he deserves.

Ready or Not by J.L. Berg

Born into wealth and privilege, free-spirited Liv Prescott left it all behind when she realized there was more to life than living off of trust funds and barely skating by. Since then, she’s worked and fought for everything she’s earned and never looked back at the world or the family she left behind.

Jackson Reid is starting over with a new job in a brand new city. A single father to his son Noah, he hopes the change will help strengthen the bond that has seemed to suffer since puberty reared its ugly head. What he hadn’t planned on was Liv—his exotic next-door neighbour who drives him insane with her wild, new age lifestyle, but still manages to leave him aching for more.

As challenges arise and feelings intensify, will these neighbours be able to look past their differences and find a middle ground? When love comes knocking, will they be ready, or not?

I loved the banter that persisted between Liv and Jackson from when they first became neighbours. It set the pace for a relationship to develop which I appreciated much more than the whole insta-love concept that is found everywhere. It gave the story a good base which got better as the book went on and Jackson and Liv's relationship grew.

The single-dad angle gave the story a different spin I'm not used to but it was nice. It made the story that much more heart-warming (as if the flamingos on the lawn weren't cute enough)! The whole theme of family is what brings and glues the two lovers together and remains a strong theme throughout the entire book. I thoroughly enjoyed the story--very easy to get through and there actually wasn't much I could pick out that annoyed the crap out of me ;)

Forever Us by Caylie Marcoe

Two years ago, Riley Logan agreed to go on a reality dating show with her best friend, Travis Grayson.

She didn't expect to fall in love with him.
One year ago, Travis asked Riley to marry him.
She said yes.

Now in the days building up to the wedding Riley and Travis navigate through the finishing touches.
A bachelorette party Riley is sure to never forget.
And the day they finally become - Forever Us.

Forever Us is available for your reading pleasure --> here!

Having loved Riley and Travis' story, I was thrilled to find Caylie had written a bit of a sequel to Choose Us (see my review here). Our beloved bffs are back and they're getting hitched! So exciting. Okay, this is a lighter read with a lot of hot and steamy so if you're looking for a super-developed storyline, you will be disappointed. If you're looking for a short, hot and steamy read, this is right up your alley! I won't spoil what happens at Riley's bachelorette party but let me tell you how giddy I was when it did happen! This was a lovely read to wrap up an awesome story of two best friends who fell in love and ended up together. Enjoy!!
